THE Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket in the UK last Saturday produced turnover of £912,339 in Hong Kong.

It was the first time the 2000m Group 1 showpiece, won by the Henry Cecil-trained Twice Over, had been shown live, and bet on, in Hong Kong.

The coverage was brokered by Phumelela Gold Enterprises (PGE), which is responsible for international distribution of the global betting-related broadcast rights of the 30 Racing UK racecourses.

Phumelela has enhanced the feature-race programme at its Vaal sand venue for next year.

The feature-race programme contains three new events – the R125,000 Lightning Stakes and the R125,000 Summer Speedsters for females, both over 1000m on Thursday 28 January, and the R125,000 Woodland Sprint for fillies and mares over 1200m on Tuesday 5 March.
