Phumelela is proud to announce SAP as its new partner in the sport of horseracing. The Vaal racecourse's greatest event, formerly known as The Emerald Cup, is now the Supreme Cup presented by SAP. The race will take place on Saturday 26 September 2015.

Racing fans can look forward to the three legged Super Supreme Series, which begins 1 August in Kimberly with the 1000m WSB Flamingo Sprint, continues with the August Stakes over 1200m on 29 August at the Vaal, and culminates in the Supreme Cup presented by SAP over 1450m.

Phumelela Gaming will give amateur horseracing in the Eastern Cape a boost by staging three races for horses, trainers and jockeys that compete on the rural racing circuit in the region.

The initiative flows from talks between the Eastern Cape Amateur Horseracing Association and Phumelela management in the region.

Phumelela is proud to announce that following an independent B-BBEE audit by Empowerdex (a highly reputable empowerment verification company in South Africa) it has maintained its Level 2 Contributor status which was first achieved in October of 2013, 14 months ahead of the Gambling Board’s target date of 2015.

On 7 April 2015, the Eastern Cape Gambling & Betting Board (ECGBB) resolved, inter alia, that TellyTrack is not a subsidiary of Phumelela and that its activities do not fall within the ambit of clause 8(6) of Phumelela’s racecourse licence.

The ruling follows a request submitted by the Gauteng Off-Course Bookmaker Association (GOBA) to the ECGBB on 28 January 2014 to urgently investigate and order Phumelela to ensure that televised broadcasting of horseracing events from Arlington and Fairview racetracks continue to be received by the members of GOBA and to conduct an inquiry into the further matters raised by GOBA.
