THE official media launch of the 2009 Sansui Summer Cup to be run over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 28 November was held yesterday and set the scene for what promises to be an exciting and fruitful partnership that comprises horseracing and tote betting company Phumelela, Primedia Sport and Sansui, one of the famous brands in the JD Group’s stable.The launch took place in the sun-drenched Piazza at Turffontein. Phumelela Sales Executive and well-known race caller Clyde Basel played the role of MC and DJ Jazzy D and friends added plenty of oomph to the occasion with a live rendition of hit song Hot, Hot, Hot which is the theme song of this year’s event.

David Attenborough, Phumelela Chief Executive SA, opened the speechmaking and welcomed Sansui on board. "It’s a momentous occasion for horseracing," he said.
He was followed on stage by George Rautenbach, Chairman of Primedia Sport, which recently entered into an agreement with Phumelela in terms of which it is responsible for the marketing and promotion of the Summer Cup.
"We are very proud as a company to be associated with horseracing," said Rautenbach. "Our business is to take corporate into sport and we look forward to this exciting opportunity."
David Sussman, Executive Chairman of the JD Group that houses brands like Joshua Doore, Bradlows, Hi-Fi Corporation and Morkels to mention but a few, said that the JD Group together with Sansui was enthralled with the opportunity of being the sponsors of the Summer Cup.
"Sansui has a fantastic pedigree and we plan to make the Summer Cup ‘the event’ on the horseracing calendar," said Sussman.
The final field for the Sansui Summer Cup will be announced on Wednesday 18 November and will be followed by the draw for starting gate positions.
